Can you SPOT the difference?

So I recently came across a new Vitiligo spot/patch forming on my face, this is due to the fact my face receives a significantly less amount of UV light because it is sensitive and I use a pillowcase to cover my face for my UV light treatments. If you have Segmental Vitiligo that is not being treated or spreads easily then you may wonder how to tell the difference between a new spot and a disappearing spot. Given that usually Vitiligo only "disappears"  when treated but in some cases your skin may go through a change and suddenly produce color in that area.

New

This is a picture of new Vitiligo spots starting to appear on my face. It is very hard to tell in a picture and may seem undetectable by the human eye in person. Take a closer look, the area's I have (very roughly) circled are areas that the Vitiligo is starting to appear. These area's turn lighter almost cloudy until it forms into a more unified spot. If a person is more fair-skinned it may be harder to detect a new forming spot/patch.

Keep Reading for pictures and explanation. :)

I have found that patches also tend to appear on areas were there is new skin from a previous cut or burn, for example in the picture of my forehead below in the area circled was new skin from a previous cut. When I was younger I scrapped my knee and when the skin grew back after scabbing it was pink-ish and then turned white and the Vitiligo spread to cover my entire knee. This case may not be true for everyone but my theory has proven true for every cutaneous injury I have had after skin regrowth.

"Disappearing" Re-pigmented areas

Depending on the type of treatment (if any) you are taking the melanin may appear darker or lighter than usual when first appearing in a previous area with Vitiligo and eventually even out to your natural tone.

Since I am taking UV light treatments my melanin first shows up darker than normal and then evens out.

The area were melanin is returning to my skin appears as little small dots my dermatologist describes as "freckling."

  4. I had vitiligo for 8 years now and I had tried different treatments (PUVA, topical steroid, meladinine cream/solution with exposure to sunlight/PUVA, oral meladinine, oil of bergamot). The vitiligo covered my neck, and one-fourth of my face. I looked for another dermatologist because i lost hope with my past dermatologists. Then somebody recommended me a good natural treatment and it worked very well. Now i'm 90% cured. With only 1 1/2 month of treatment.. Watch this review, it helped me a lot: www.naturalvitiligotreatmentsystems.com
